How we see children

At Ivywood Academy, we believe learning should be fun. Young children learn best by playing, solving problems, questioning, and experimenting. Teachers use play and other instructional techniques to help children's development. Our building has been part of the community since 1997, and our staff is honored to keep working with the families around us.

In the rooms, that looks like children building, pouring, sorting, and asking questions while a teacher sits nearby. Teachers have specific training, knowledge, and skills in child development and early childhood education, which helps them provide positive communication, richer language experiences, and quality learning environments. We work to support each family's diverse needs and interests.

We earned three stars in Georgia's Quality Rated program. That means we demonstrated a commitment to standards that exceed state health and safety requirements, meet numerous quality benchmarks, and score high on the independent observation. Our program promotes the nutrition and health of children with nutritious meals and a safe environment. All children must be healthy and safe in order to learn and grow.

Six children stand and sit on and around a wooden balance beam in a gym, with one boy in a black shirt and five girls in matching teal shirts smiling at the camera.

What you notice in practice

Teachers get down at eye level and follow what a child is already working on. A child who keeps stacking blocks gets a teacher who asks what happens if the tower goes higher. Our staff has the training and knowledge to support each child's learning.

Rooms are set up so children can reach what they need and choose what to do. Toys sit on low shelves, and materials for drawing, building, and pretend play stay within reach. The day moves between active stretches and quiet ones, with meals and rest built in. Children learn by playing, solving problems, questioning, and experimenting at their own pace.

How we work with families

At pickup, teachers who know your child's day can tell you what happened, not just that it was fine. Our staff supports families' diverse needs and interests. Teachers with training in child development and early childhood education are more likely to provide positive communication, richer language experiences, and quality learning environments. If you have a question, ask.

Starting a new center is a big change for a child and for you. Our teachers know children settle in at their own pace, and we work with families through those first weeks. Tell us how your child naps, eats, and comforts themselves. Our staff takes pride in serving our families and enriching each student's education and wellbeing.
